BEWER, Matthias
BEWER, Matthias. (Germany, June 18, 1823--Jan. 1, 1895). Bewer came to Dubuque on June 18, 1848. He began working at his trade of stone mason and continued until 1857.
Bewer entered the dry-goods house of JOHN BELL AND COMPANY in 1859 and was with that firm fourteen years. He then opened his own business on the corner Iowa and Twelfth STREETS. He was one of the founders of the Pius Society and also belonged to the Mutual Life Insurance Company serving as its treasurer for fourteen years.
