BAUMGARTNER, Walter John. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. II, 1885--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 15, 1970). In 1933 Baumgartner was a co-founder of the Dubuque County Conservation Society and served as its treasurer for twenty-five years. For his efforts, the Iowa Conservation Council awarded him its certificate of merit.

In 1956 Baumgartner received a fifty-year certificate from the Dubuque District Dental Society. He received the Centennial Award of the Iowa Dental Association in 1963. Baumgartner was a columnist for the Iowa Dental Journal until just before his death. For many years he served on the Board of Trustees at ST. LUKE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH and played the church chimes for fifty-one years.
