AMERICAN HOTEL. According to the 1857-1858 Dubuque City Directory, this hotel was located at the corner of Fourth and Main STREETS. John Farnsworth was the proprietor from 1856 through 1858-1859. (1)

The 1867 Dubuque City Directory gave no address for this business although it was listed.

The 1874-1875 through the 1918 Dubuque City Directory listed 400 Clay as the address.

The 1909 and 1911-12 Dubuque City Directory gave the address as 406 Clay.

The 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory and the 1915 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was located at 409 4th.

The 1922 through 1939 Dubuque City Directory listed 400 Central.
