ALTMAN HOUSE. The lower end of Central Avenue was once the scene of many boarding houses and stables operated by natives from various provinces of Germany. This gave the nae "Luxembourgh Avenue" to the street. (1)

The 1909 through 1918 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was located at 678 Clay.
