UNIVERSITY PARK. Recreational area located on the former site of ST. JOSEPH'S SANITARIUM. The eighteen-acre recreational area was located on Asbury Road adjacent to BUNKER HILL GOLF COURSE across from Hillcrest Road.

Vacant since 1968, the land was opened as a park in 1972 through the cooperation of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE and the Dubuque Park Board.

In 1971 the university, which owned the land, agreed to allow the city to use the land for ten years as a park for a rental of one dollar per year and maintenance. Picnic tables and fireplaces were built, a concrete tennis court was refurbished, and an exercise track installed.

Beginning in 1988 the land was developed as a residential site and the home of the Badger Red Cross Blood Center.
