STUBER, John, Jr. (Dubuque, IA, July 15, 1860--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 10, 1932). Employed thirty years with the DUBUQUE CABINET MAKERS' ASSOCIATION which was started by his father John Stuber, Sr., Stuber later worked in the musical department of HARGER AND BLISH and played the cornet at the GRAND OPERA HOUSE.

In 1882 Stuber organized the DUBUQUE MILITARY BAND, later called the Community Band, and served as its manager. In 1920 Stuber organized the Oxus Grotto band and served as director. For many years he was a member of the Grand Opera House orchestra and performed with many of the city's dance orchestras. For many years, he served as president of the DUBUQUE MUSICIANS' PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION..

Stuber was elected City Recorder in 1918. With the adoption of the city manager form of government in 1920, he was appointed city clerk.
