Street signs in 2010

STREET SIGNS. Street signs, so evident today, were not always present. In 1896 the City of St. Louis imported 4,100 street signs and asked that they not be inspected in New York but be shipped directly to St. Louis. The signs were needed before the Republican convention and the situation was "urgent." (1)

Beginning on September 30, 2010, old Dubuque's street signs could be purchased by citizens for $25.00 each. The signs were scheduled to be replaced over a two year period to comply with new federal regulations. Proceeds from the sale went into the city's general fund.
