ST. ALPHONSUS SOCIETY

ST. ALPHONSUS SOCIETY. St. Alphonsus Society was organized on October 14, 1867, by The Rev. A. Meis, Henry Wernimont, Jacob Klauer, Conrad Meis, August Domes, Henry Willging, Mathias Weber, Hermann Kuhlmanu and Xavier Gruber. The objects of the Society were to assist the sick, bury the dead, aid in the support of the widows of members.

In 1890 the officers were: Peter KLAUER, President; Frank SCHROEDER, Vice President; P. Geisheker and H. Willging, Secretaries; Christian Anton VOELKER, Treasurer; J. Becker, Marshal, and J. R. Ferring, H. M. Harburger, C. F. Ruh, P. Scharff and H. J. Kiehd, Collectors.

Meetings were held monthly, on the third Monday, at St. Mary's School. In 1890 the membership was 134, and the value of the society property was estimated at $2,000.
