SCHRUP, Nicholas J. II. (Dubuque, IA., Sept. 28, 1929--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 16, 1996). Schrup, son of Charles Joseph Schrup, joined AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK in 1954 as assistant cashier and a member of the board of directors.

Named senior vice-president of the bank in 1966, Schrup became the fourth president of American Trust in 1967 and chairman of the board in 1973.

The recipient of the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award in 1960 and 1962, Schrup began an active commitment to civic organizations in 1955 as the Dubuque County Cancer Crusade chairman. President of the Dubuque JAYCEES in 1959, Schrup chaired the Dubuque United Fund Campaign in 1962 and 1963, Dubuque Downtown Redevelopment Committee in 1966, and the XAVIER HOSPITAL Capital Gifts Campaign in 1973. He was president of the Dubuque Area Wide Health Facilities Planning Board from 1965 to 1966. In 1991 he received the "Man Behind the Boy" award from the DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB and was inducted into the DUBUQUE BUSINESS HALL OF FAME. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Civic Service Award from the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in June 1992. Among the boards on which he served were those of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE, LORAS COLLEGE, CLARKE COLLEGE, DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION, Iowa College Foundation, and the Iowa Historical Foundation.
