SCHARPHOFF, Aloysius. (Dyersville, IA, June 9, 1908--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 6, 1970). Scharphoff, an employee for nearly fifty years of the TELEGRAPH HERALD, was president of the International Typographical Union Local 22. For nineteen years he was editor and publisher of the Dubuque Sporting News.

An active collector of stamps with one of the finest collections in Dubuque, Scharphoff served as a volunteer instructor for stamp and coin collectors at the DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB. He was a former president of the Dubuque Stamp and Coin Club, fourteen year volunteer with the Dubuque Boy's Club, and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys' Club Boosters.
