ROUSE, Hammond. (Penfield, Monroe Co., TN, Oct.15, 1824--Independence, IA, May 16, 1885). Rouse came to Dubuque in 1851 and became an associate of Jesse P. FARLEY and Alfred TREDWAY. (1) As the proprietor of IOWA IRON WORKS, he began the first iron works manufacturing business north of St. Louis, Missouri on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER.

In 1858 Rouse took full control of the company as the senior member of ROUSE, DEAN AND COMPANY.

Rouse retired from the business in 1879 when his company was one of the largest in the West.
