PAINE, J.C.
PAINE, J. C. (Montreal, Canada, Jan. 9, 1832--Sept., 1891). After living a short time in Vermont and Albany, New York, Paine moved to Dubuque in 1857. He entered business with J. Maclay with whom he maintained a partnership for eighteen years as a dealer in stoves, tin, copper, and sheet-iron. In 1874 Paine entered business for himself.
An inventor of some of the products he sold, Paine patented a stovepipe drum in 1865. (1)
