MILK FUND. In response to the GREAT DEPRESSION, an emergency milk fund was established by 1933. Contributions could be sent to the Telegraph-Herald and Times Journal. Groups that pledged regular weekly or monthly contributions were listed on an honor roll published daily. (1)

In February, 1933 the Milk Fund was delivering approximately 1.5 quarts of milk daily to 794 families. In these families, the number of school aged children totaled 1,356 while the number of pre-school children was 1,178. There were 210 families with from five to twelve children. The Milk Fund also sent milk to more than 900 undernourished children in the public schools. (2)
