MEYER, Charles H. (Alsace, Germany, Nov. 13, 1848--Unknown). As a child, Meyer with his parents emigrated to the United States in 1856 and came directly to Dubuque. He was educated in the public schools and at BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE.

Meyer began his career as a clerk and then went to work for the CHICAGO, DUBUQUE AND MINNESOTA RAILROAD as a messenger. He worked for the railroad for several years becoming the freight and ticket agent in Dubuque.

Meyer was elected county treasurer in 1883 and served through 1891. He then became the cashier of the GERMAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK two two years. He served as secretary of the DUBUQUE STREET RAILWAY COMPANY.
