KLINKNER, Anthony Ferdinand Timothy. (Cascade, IA, July 10, 1880--Dubuque, IA, May 13, 1953). The Poet Laureate League of America named Klinkner its first poet laureate for Iowa in 1933. The same year Principal Poets of the World, a British publication, carried a biography of the Iowa poet.

Klinkner served as editor of Young America from 1897 to 1903. A member of the United and National Amateur Press Associations during the same period, he worked as a reporter for the TELEGRAPH HERALD in 1903 and then for the CATHOLIC PRINTING COMPANY beginning in 1919. Klinkner's articles and verse appeared in more than three hundred Catholic and secular newspapers throughout North America, France, and Ireland.
