KANE, Allan J.
Kane, Allan J. (New Wine Township, Jan. 10, 1886--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 26, 1935). A graduate of the University of Iowa law school, Kane was elected in 1912 as a Democrat to the state legislature. He served two terms. In his first term, he was chosen leader of the minority party and led the fight against the adoption of the state PROHIBITION law. In November 1916 as his term in the House was expiring, he was appointed an Assistant County Attorney under Hugh STUART and served from 1917 to 1918.
In 1922, Kane was elected to the Board of Education for the Independent School District of Dubuque and served as its president in 1923. Kane served three terms as county attorney from January 1, 1923 through December 31, 1928.
