JOHN BALE. According to the 1857-1858 Dubuque City Directory, this business was located on the corner of Main and 8th.
The 1858-1859 and 1859-1860 Dubuque City Directory listed Main between 10th and 11th when he was listed as an "annunciator" or announcer.
The 1870-1871 and 1878-79 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business could be found on the north side of 8th between Main and Iowa. He was also listed as a gas and steam pipe fitter.
The 1875-1876 through 1878-79 Dubuque City Directory gave the address as the northeast corner of 8th and Main.
The 1880 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was to be found at 1203 Clay.
