JANSEN, Evangeline. (Pocahontas, IA, May 16, 1916--Dubuque, IA, June 10, 2001). A graduate of the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Jansen was the former owner and president of the FEDERAL DISCOUNT CORPORATION headquartered in Dubuque. Federal Discount was the parent company to many finance company subsidiaries which operated seventy offices in six midwestern states from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Jansen was a member of the board of directors of DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY and director of Heartland Financial USA, Inc. beginning in 1981. She was a founding member of the DUBUQUE VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION Foundation Board and was past vice president of the board.

Named to the DUBUQUE BUSINESS HALL OF FAME in 1990, she received the 1991 National Society of Fund Raising Executives Outstanding Philanthropist award. She also received a CLARKE COLLEGE honorary doctor of humanities degree, served on the Clarke College Board of Trustees, and served as vice chair of the board and a member and past chair of the finance committee. Jansen was a member of the Board of Corporation of the Clarke College Board of Trustees of which she was the first lay woman appointed. The Jansen Music Hall was named in her honor.
