HURD, Louis G. (Deavertown, OH, January 1847--Dubuque, IA, January 25, 1929). (1245 Grove Terrace) Hurd attended the Cincinnati College Law School and was admitted to legal practice in Iowa in 1871. In 1890 he was a member of the firm of Henderson, Hurd, Daniels and Kiesel. (1) In 1907 Hurd was the senior member of the law firm of Hurd, Lenehan and Kiesel which specialized in commercial collections with "special attention given to cases in supreme and federal courts." (2) In 1921 he was the senior member of the firm of Hurd, Lenehan, Smith and O'Connor. (3)

Hurd held membership in many civic and professional organizations. He was a charter member of the Dubuque lodge of the ELKS CLUB and the first exalted ruler of that lodge. He was a member of the school board and president of the DUBUQUE CLUB and the Dubuque County Bar Association. (4)
