HOSFORD, Phillip D.
HOSFORD, Phillip D. (New York--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 29, 1890) Hosford came to Dubuque in 1854 and joined the business of Van Doren & Belcher. He formed a partnership with William Paggett ALLEN in the firm of Allen & Hosford. He retired from this firm in 1863. He worked four years with the NORTHWESTERN UNION PACKET COMPANY and then joined the firm of Blanchard & Wellington. From this he moved into a business conducted by W. H. RUMPF and became a partner ten years later in the firm of RUMPF, HOSFORD & FERRING. He retired from this in 1890. (1)
He was known locally as a strong supporter of the HOME FOR THE FRIENDLESS. (2)
