HORMAN, Steve. (Mitchell, SD, 1951-- ). As president of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in 1995, Horman remarked that, "I love going to ribbon cuttings and grand openings and expansions. I love seeing the community grow and prosper." In 1995 with a career of twenty years working in chambers of commerce including six-and-one-half years in Dubuque, Horman had plenty to attend and played an instrumental role in them occurring.

H0rman earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University o South Dakota. He graduated from the Institute for Organization Management in Boulder, Colorado and earned Certified Chamber Executive designation from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives.

In 1995 H0rman had served as chairman of the Institute for Organization Management at the University of Colorado;, board of trustees member, National Institute of Organization Management; board member, American Chamber of Commerce Executives; past president and board member, Iowa Chamber of Commerce Executives; past chairman, Midwest Association of Chamber Executives; past board member, GRAND OPERA HOUSE; past member, Clarke College Development Council; member, East Central Intergovernmental Association regional housing commission; board member, GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION; and member of the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR-MANAGEMENT COUNCIL.

He work with chambers of commerce began in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He lobbied for the chamber and served as a loaned executive for the National Alliance of Businesses in South Dakota. Told that he was too young to head the Sioux Falls chamber, he left in 1984 for the River City Chamber of Commerce in Clinton, Iowa. He took the Dubuque chamber office in 1988.

In 1995 Horman pointed to the work done improving the transportation network and focusing on the needs of the business community. This including helping to create an East Dubuque division of the chamber.

Horman for years also served as a licensed foster parent eventually having twenty foster sons. (1)
