HARTNESS, Jean
HARTNESS, Jean. (Oskaloosa, IA, Jan. 18, 1914--Davenport, IA, Jan. 2, 2001). Hartness owned and operated Jean Hartness Realty Company in Dubuque from 1949-1972 before retiring. In 1966 the company was operated at 1458 Locust. She served five years on the planning and zoning commission for the city of Dubuque.
Jean Hartness was the first female president of the Dubuque Board of Realtors and was also the founder of the high school student-built housing program which evolved into a nationwide education program. Hartness was an incorporator of the Dubuque Realtor's Building and Vocational School Advisory Committee and served as a member for thirteen years.
Hartness was a member of the Iowa Association of Realtor Board of Directors and served on the Dubuque Realtor's Board of Directors in 1972. She was a member of the board of Governors of the Dubuque Multiple Listing Service in 1969, 1970 and 1972.
Hartness wrote many articles that appeared in the Hawkeye Realtor and was president of the Iowa Chapter of Women's Council in 1971. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Dubuque Chapter, in 1966. A member of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, she served on the public relations and highway committees.
Hartness received the first Realtor of the Year Award given in Dubuque. She was listed in Who's Who in America.
The 1964 through 1972 Dubuque City Directory listed 1458 Locust.
The 1977 through 1983 Dubuque City Directory listed 1480 Dodge.
