HARTLEP, Ralph, Jr. (Chicago Heights, IL, Dec. 31, 1946--Iowa City, IA, Nov. 16, 2016). Ralph graduated Bloom High School in Chicago Heights and then entered the US Army. He finished his active duty on February 1967 and receiving a Letter of Commendation. After returning from active duty, Ralph married Linda on February 17, 1968 and went to work for Midwest Forging Company, then went on to be a supervisor at Ford Motor Company, and then as a supervisor for Pullman Standard Train Company in Chicago, Illinois.

Ralph and his family moved to Dubuque where he took a job as plant manager for WATUBO-TEK INDUSTRIES.

During his professional career Ralph felt the need to dedicate his time to public service. He was dedicated to the fight against neuro-muscular disease and coordinated a live telethon for the Eastern Iowa Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy Association and was named volunteer of the year in 1988. Ralph served as a commissioner for Dubuque Park and Recreation from 1988-1990 and participated in the planning, construction and opening of Flora and Sutton pools. He was a member of the board of directors for the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR-MANAGEMENT COUNCIL from 1988-1993. Ralph served as the Post Commander of the American Legion Post #521 in Steger, IL and was a County Health Department Emergency Response Coordinator.
