GOLD LEAF GOLD MINE. Located twenty miles west of Prescott, Arizona, the mine was discovered in 1896 by a man named Riley who had been financially supported for two years by two men in Dubuque named Walker and Rhomberg. Riley sank a shaft into a crevice 6,000 feet long and four feet wide. The ore brought up from the digging was valued at from $33 to $161 per ton. (1)

Joseph K. KAUFMANN traveled to Arizona to represent the interest of the Dubuque stockholders and supervise the mining operation. A mill was established to crush the ore and Dominick Rhomberg arrived to determine future activities. (2)

In 1917 when the mine was operated by the Wesley Rush family, a mining engineer wrote a report detailing his belief that $100,000 worth of ore had already been mined. (3) The mine is not currently operating.
