FLUETSCH, Andrew. (Graubuenden, Switzerland, July 8, 1872--1961). Fluetsch attended grade school in Switzerland and at the age of fourteen came to the United States with his sister and settled in Dubuque. He then attended rural school in Dubuque County and the BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE.

In 1891 Andrew and his father purchased the Martin Redi Dairy Company. This was reorganized as the J. Fluetsch & Son Dairy. This business was operated by the two men until 1898 when Andrew became the sole owner until 1900. The farm was moved from Sutter's farm at this time to the farm of Frank D. STOUT on Asbury Road.

In 1908 Andrew Fluetsch established the IOWA DAIRY COMPANY by consolidating the H. J. Jecklin Dairy, Conzett Brothers Dairy and his own dairy. He served as the secretary and treasurer of the company until 1928 when he became president. In 1928 the dairy was consolidated with the BEATRICE CREAMERY COMPANY.

Fluetsch was also vice-president and a director of the UNION TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK, president of the Iowa Ice Cream Manufacturers Association and the Iowa Milk Dealers Association and a member of the International Milk Dealers Association and the International Ice Cream Manufacturers Association. Locally he was a former president of the Dubuque Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Rotary Club.
