CORN EMPIRE CELEBRATION. Dubuque's first Corn Empire Celebration was held October 27th-31st, 1933. Friday was the day for placing exhibits in the stores. Interested individuals could exhibit in as many categories as they wanted, but all exhibits had to be placed by 5:30 p.m. Saturday at 1:30 p.m. was the Doll Buggy Parade. First place won $5.00 while second won $3.00 and third received $2.00. Details for the exhibits and the march of the parade were available in the TELEGRAPH HERALD.

The judging of all the exhibits was held on Monday. Winning exhibits were to be shown in the store windows. A "Mutt" Dog Parade was held at 4:30 p.m. with ten dollars in prizes for the ugliest, dirtiest, and most mixed breed. The final day of the event featured all the prize winning entries displayed in store windows. After dark a "monstrous" Halloween Mardi Gras and at 10:00 p.m. a free street dance on Locust Street between Sixth and Eighth STREETS was scheduled. Cash prizes were awarded for the best costumes.
