BARMEIER, Harry
BARMEIER, Harry. (IN, Oct. 30, 1871-St. Louis, MO, Jan. 1944). In 1893 Barmeier moved to Dubuque from Indianapolis and was soon appointed chief deputy Fish and Game Warden. He wrote the hunters' license law and was an organizer and first vice-president of the Iowa Fish and Game Protective Association. Barmeier was also known locally for his participation in several local orchestras and military bands and as a director of the Wild Life League.
Barmeier's active political involvement in Warren Garst's campaign for governor is generally considered the cause of his being passed over by Governor Carroll for the position of game warden.
