"INCUBATOR HILL"

"INCUBATOR HILL." High birth rates in Dubuque were hardly a rarity. One location in the mid 1960s to the early 1970s was given, at least by its residents, a special nickname due to the many children. "Incubator Hill" was an area with the main corridor being West 8th with Air Hill, Wilson, and Caledonia being the adjacent streets. The families living in these three blocks had a total population of more than 100 children. At one time, one family had nine children, but only ranked #3. Another family had 16 children and another had 12.
