STONEHILL CARE CENTER. Dubuque's largest and only Catholic-operated nursing home. Established in 1978, Stonehill replaced St. Francis Home that could no longer meet safety and fire codes. The X-shaped three-story building was designed by Durrant Architects of Dubuque for the SISTERS OF THE THIRD ORDER OF ST. FRANCIS OF THE HOLY FAMILY (OSF), the administrators of the facility. There were thirty-six semi-private and 178 private rooms.
