PAULY, Colford N. "Nick." (Feb. 22, 1914--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 26, 2005) Pauly's interest in bowling began while setting pins at the HOLY TRINITY BOWLING ALLEY. He bowled his first game in 1931 and scored 134.
Pauly served as an officer of the Dubuque Bowling Association for 19 years. He was the president for two terms in 1956-57 and 1965-66. In 1976 he was elected a director of the Dubuque Bowling Association for the third time. He served as president of the Merchants' League and served the Dubuque Classic League as secretary-treasurer for over fifteen years.
Pauly was a charter member of the Dubuque 700 Club and served that group as King Pin and other offices. He had a 700 series in the 1954-55 season and a 709 series with games of 206-256-247. He bowled on two different teams that won the Dubuque City Bowling Tournament--the John Dietz Shoe Repair team in 1933 and the Dubuque Star Team in 1955. In the 1960 Iowa State Tournament in Des Moines, he cashed in every event--15th in team, 15th in doubles, 205th in singles and 24th in all-events. His career highs in bowling include a 709 series, a 196 average, and four 279 games.
In 1966 Pauly was elected a director of the Iowa State Bowling Association ans served as president of the ISBA during the 1973-74 season. He never missed a Council of Delegates meeting of the ISBA since his first one in 1951.
Pauly was active on the junior bowling level serving as the Iowa State Junior Bowling Program in all offices including president. He was inducted into the Iowa Bowling Hall of Fame in March, 1977. In April 1997 Pauly made Iowa bowling history by becoming the first person to bowl in fifty consecutive Iowa State Bowling Association tournaments. He had previously been inducted into the state seniors, and Dubuque Bowling Association halls of fame. (1)
