MATTHEWS, Blayney F. (Dubuque, IA, 1894--Burbank, CA, Oct. 23, 1962). Director, Plant Protection and Personnel-Warner Bros. Studios. Considered an expert on extortion, blackmail, and industrial sabotage, Matthews began his career as an F.B.I. agent and later worked as the chief investigator for the Los Angeles district attorney from 1930 to 1935. He then joined Warner Bros.

For eleven years, Matthews was in charge of the annual presentation of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences award program. On the eve of WORLD WAR II, he wrote a book entitled, The Specter of Sabotage. Matthews was educated in Dubuque schools and graduated from LORAS COLLEGE and the University of Iowa.
