Margaret Lindsay pretended to be English to begin her career in motion pictures.

LINDSAY, Margaret. (Dubuque, IA-Los Angeles, CA, May 8, 1981). Actress. Lindsay, daughter of pharmacist John Kies and his wife Bertha, is remembered as the Iowa girl who fooled Hollywood producers.

A graduate of the ACADEMY OF THE VISITATION, Lindsay began an acting career in London just as Hollywood producers developed a desire for foreign talent in the early 1930s. While sailing back to America, she practiced an English accent and convinced movie producers she was from England. Lindsay’s appearance in Cavalcade led to roles in other pictures.

Among the eighty-eight MOTION PICTURES in which she appeared were Hell's Kitchen with Ronald Reagan, Green Light with Errol Flynn, and House of the Seven Gables with Vincent Price and George Sanders.
