JENNINGS, John D. (Pittsburgh, PA, Feb. 8, 1824--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 23, 1889). Justice of the Peace. Jennings, an attorney, settled in Dubuque on April 17, 1851, and became one of the editors of the Miners' Express. Until 1857, in the firm of Kinsy, David and Jennings, he engaged in the real estate business before returning to the practice of law with the firm of McNulty and Jennings.

Jennings was elected to the Iowa Legislature in 1859 and then the Iowa Senate where he served four years.

Identified with educational interests, Jennings served two terms as president of the Dubuque school board. He also served as City Auditor.
