JANZEN, Isaiah. ( ). In 2009 Isaiah wrote on his weblog that Iowa was the tenth state in which he had lived including California, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Colorado and Wisconsin. He had a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering (2004-2008). His Undergraduate Major Qualifying Project involved being a research assistant on multiple satellite imaging research and refining a MatLab simulation as well as conducting a feasibility study for a large scale experiment and a small scale experiment. He was a research assistant in 2007 studying multiple satellite imaging interferometry.

From August 2008 through December 2009, Janzen was a research assistant conducting heat treating process analysis using Abaqus and DANTE Finite Element Phase Transformation Software for a transmission gear at Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. Major accomplishments included analyzing and re-engineering heat treating process of steel ring gears that results in a cost savings of $100,000 in the first year and no less in each successive year. He authored Modeling of Heat Treating Processes for Transmission Gears which served as a Masters of Science thesis and received his M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering (2009-2010) from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Janzen invented an I-Beam Ice Axe with patents pending. (1) In 2009 four teams qualified to present for the Strage Innovation Award at WPI: Isaiah Janzen for Filtroy Mountaineering, Michael Tidd for Social Bridges, Matthew Doherty for DigiReceipt, and Jeffrey Trost for GreenKeys. First Place was earned to Fitzroy Mountaineering (Isaiah Janzen) (2)

In 2011 Janzen moved to Dubuque where he has worked at the JOHN DEERE DUBUQUE WORKS as a structural engineer conducting structural analysis on major machine components such as booms, tanks, grapples, disk saw felling heads, and brackets. Locally he served as an assistant track and field and cross country coach at the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE. (3)

Janzen is a serious runner. As an athlete at WPI he participated in two New England cross country races, posting a career-best time at the Division 3 New England Championships his senior year. In track, Janzen focused on the longer events and managed to set the current WPI school record in the 10,000 meters in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He also qualified for Division 3 Outdoor New Englands twice and ECACs once in the 10,000. (4) He joined the staff of WPI as the Assistant M/W Cross Country Coach in 2009. (5) In 2014 he had a 32:12 10k PR and 2:30:20 marathon PR. His Million Mile Ultra Run Results from 2001-Nov.2014 indicate 30,147 miles. (6)

Jansen also enjoys mountain climbing including ascents of the Diamond on Longs Peak and reaching 7000 meters (and spending the night) on Broad Peak. In April 2014 he attempted Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen when 16 people died in an avalanche. (7) The same year he ran 154.5 miles in 24 hours to claim the distance national championship. (8)
