HI-Y CLUB
HI-Y CLUB. A national organization for male high school students was started in 1913. The name of the group was decided in 1914 at a meeting in Cleveland and was then adopted nationwide by similar groups. In 1925 there were 2,000 Hi-Y Club in the United States with a total membership estimated at 60,000.
The Dubuque chapter was organized in 1912 and in 1924-1925 had an estimated sixty members. The organization was open to any high school male willing to agree to the philosophy to "create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character." In Dubuque, the chapter provided service to the YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.M.C.A.) and the high school. In 1924 the group raised $80.00 to redecorate the boy's game room at the Y.M.C.A.
