HANSEN, John P.
HANSEN, John P. (Luxemburg, Germany, Sept. 17, 1842--Unknown). Hansen emigrated to Dubuque in 1854.
At the start of the CIVIL WAR, he enlisted in the 5th I.V.C., Co. E. Captured at Newlin, on McCook's raid, Hanson was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison for seven months. He was sick and so nearly starved that he had to be carried out on a stretcher. As a result of his imprisonment, Hensen spent five months in a hospital.
After the war, returned to Dubuque and sold wine and liquor. He married Miss Christina Pappe, a native of Hanover, Germany, on December 10, 1867; they had six children.
