FREDERICK, Harvey. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 2, 1938--Pharr, TX, Aug. 24, 2018). The son of Edward and Emilia (Miller) Frederick, Harvey graduated from DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in 1956. After graduation he worked at the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY until 1958, when he was invited to join the Andy Doll Band of Oelwein, Iowa.
Voted by the National Ballroom Operations Association in the Downbeat Magazine poll as one of the top four dance bands in the nation, the band played extensively throughout the Midwest. Harvey played with many well-known artists, including Johnny Cash, and participated in back-up bands from the Grand Ole Opry. He continued with his passion for music through the years by performing with many talented musicians.
Harvey left the Andy Doll Band to join the DUBUQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT in 1962, from which he retired after 34 years of service.
