FISCHER, Katherine. (Milwaukee, WI-- ). In 2010, Fischer was one of the few female authors writing about life along the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. In addition to her popular and frequent columns in the TELEGRAPH HERALD, her book Dreaming the Mississippi was published in 2007. In 2008 she explored the question, "What is a Dubuquer?" for Dubuque Terquasquicentennial Volume II--People Places and Events Shaping Our City's First 175 Years published by the Telegraph Herald. She contributed valuable material to this encyclopedia.
Fischer could also take a lighter look at life. Many of her newspaper columns described life as she found it. In 2008 she joined author Rebecca Christian to write, That's Our Story and We're Sticking To It.
Fischer held a B.A. Clarke College, M.A.vLORAS COLLEGE and MFA (Goddard College). In 2010 she served as an English professor and Chair of the Language and Literature Department at CLARKE UNIVERSITY. She was a frequent presenter at academic conferences and in the academic press on subjects including teaching writing and literature, curriculum design, and computer-mediated instruction.
