DUBUQUE CYCLING CLUB. The young men interested in "straddling steeds of steel," as the newspaper described bicycles, organized their club in Dubuque on March 17, 1892. The organization began with twenty members.

Each club had its own colors and the Dubuque group chose blue and old gold. Plans called for weekly "runs" during the summer and the possibility of a local tournament. A future plan, after the group had joined the League of American Wheelmen, was for the city to host the annual meeting of the state division of the organization.
