CERCONE, Leonard Jr. (Youngstown, OH, 1963- ). Cercone came to Dubuque in 1988, seven weeks after taking a position as assistant property manager at a mall in Spotsylvania, Pennsylvania. He had completed an eight-month training period with the Cafaro Company, owner of KENNEDY MALL before becoming the company's property manager in Dubuque.

Cercone's attendance at meetings of the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE broke a long record of non-participation of the Mall in Chamber activities. He further pledged participation of Mall merchants in the summer of 1990 to "Dash Across Dubuque." This promotion was aimed at unifying Dubuque merchants in their efforts to encourage business activity within the city without internal rivalry.
