BUTLER, Ellis
BUTLER, Ellis. (Merrill, WI, 1907--Minneapolis, MN, Dec. 17, 1964). A graduate of COLUMBIA ACADEMY, Butler attended Northwestern University before working for the Oak Park Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago. He married Barbara Cottingham, the daughter of John D. COTTINGHAM, in 1929 and entered the insurance business in 1934. He later specialized in insuring turkeys and became a nationally recognized authority on poultry insurance. (1)
Butler was a past president and past chairman of trustees of the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB and president of COTTINGHAM AND BUTLER, INC. (2) In 1943 he was named to the executive council of the Red Cross Camp and Hospital Service. (3) He was the father of John E. Butler.
