BLOCKLINGER, Albert Herman
BLOCKLINGER, Albert Herman. (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 26, 1868-Dubuque, IA, 1924). Blocklinger received his early education in the Audubon and Fifth Ward public schools and graduated from Dubuque high school. In 1894 hw graduated from the Iowa State Medical School with the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
Blocklinger began the practice at La Motte, Iowa, where he remained six years, and then took a post-graduate course in internal medicine at Vienna, Austria, receiving a diploma from the institution there. In 1901 he returned to Dubuque and immediately opened a general practice with the exception of the year 1905 when he again went abroad and further pursued the study of internal medicine at Vienna, Berlin and Berne. Previous to this in 1904 he took a course in electro therapeutics in Chicago.
He was a member of the American, Iowa State and Dubuque County Medical associations, being president of the latter. He deliverws a course of lectures in the Dubuque County schools and contributed extensively to various papers and medical magazines. He was a recognized as an authority on X-ray work. He was also considered a national authority on tuberculosis. During war times, Blocklinger served on the medical examining board and at his death held the rank of captain in the medical reserve corps.
