WALTON, Sandra
WALTON, Sandra. (Sherrill, IA- ). Educator. In 1987 Walton was one of three teachers selected by the Iowa Academy of Science as candidates for Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching. Walton was then selected as one of two teachers in Iowa to receive the award managed by the National Science Foundation. The award was presented with a five thousand dollar grant to her school at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., held on November 16-20, 1987.
Walton used the grant, which had to be spent in two years, to fund the Grade School Physics Olympics in 1987 and 1988. Monies were also used to purchase equipment for DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL.
A teacher at Senior High since 1974, Walton had been a recipient of several fellowships to study with national physics foundations. She attended an International Conference for Physics Teachers in Japan in 1986.
