BOUGHTON, Jim
BOUGHTON, Jim. (Grosse Pointe, MI, Apr. 10, 1954--Dubuque, IA, May 4, 2010). Educator and athletic coach. Boughton began his thirty-three year career in education in Michigan for one year and then moved to Wisconsin for four years. He relocated to Dubuque and taught at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL the rest of his life. He was a math teacher and track and cross country coach.
Boughton coached Senior to state cross country team championships in 1987, 1995, and 1998 and had four other state runners-up. He coached six straight individual state champs-Simeon Wright (1991-1992), Jason Carpenter, Rob Brock (1994-1995), and Trent Corey. In the spring, he served as an assistant with the track team focusing on the distance runners.
Memorials for the beloved coach were directed toward HOSPICE OF DUBUQUE or the Jim Boughton Memorial Fund at Senior. Boughton was also memorialized through a 5K race and a kid's fun run on May 29th on CHAPLAIN SCHMITT ISLAND. Proceeds from the event were designated to benefit the Heroes of Hope Grey Ribbon Crusade and the cross country programs at Senior.
