MCDERMOTT, Augustin Sylvester. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 16, 1834-Dubuque, IA, July 6, 1906). First white male born in Dubuque. McDermott, as a child, moved with his parents to a farm. He returned to Dubuque in 1881 to form the partnership of McCann and McDermott, dealers in harvesting machinery and other farm implements. When McCann was elected sheriff, McDermott carried on the business alone.
