PRIDE MONTH

Gay Liberation Monument. Created in 1980, the Gay Liberation sculpture by American artist George Segal was the first piece of public art dedicated to gay rights and solidarity for LGBTQ individuals while simultaneously commemorating the ongoing struggles of the community.[1] The monument was dedicated on June 23, 1992, as part of the dedication of the Stonewall National Monument as a whole.[

PRIDE MONTH. Since 2017 recognition of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) Month events have been sponsored by local businesses and nonprofits. Pride Month was observed in June in recognition of the Stonewall Inn riots of June, 1969 in Manhattan. A series of demonstrations had occurred in June and July of that year following a police raid on the Inn, a gathering place for members of the gay community, The site was later named a National Historic Site.

Organizers of LGBT+ Pride Month was established to recognize the community's history, accomplishments and challenges. Events were sponsored by local businesses and nonprofits. CO DUBUQUE was founded to provide a local network for Dubuque's LGBT and allied community. (1)
