DUBUQUE, BELLEVUE, AND MISSISSIPPI RAILWAY
DUBUQUE, BELLEVUE, AND MISSISSIPPI RAILWAY. In January, 1870 articles of organization were filed in Iowa incorporating the Dubuque, Bellevue and Mississippi Railway Company. The object was the corporation was to construct a railroad from Belevue to Dubuque and to extend the line and by branch roads to connect with other cities or other lines of railroad within the state.
Steps were taken to operate the new railroad with the CHICAGO, DUBUQUE AND MINNESOTA RAILROAD. These efforts were in part successful although the companies remained separate. Both railroads entered into a contract with the Chicago and Iowa Railroad Company of Illinois with the idea of connecting their roads by that railroad to Chicago, but this contract was never finalized.
Soon after the formation of the Dubuque, Bellevue and Mississippi Company, the president of the DUBUQUE AND MINNESOTA RAILROAD was elected president. On October 5, 1871, the name of the railroad was changed from the Dubuque, Bellevue and Mississippi Railroad Company to the CHICAGO, CLINTON, AND DUBUQUE RAILROAD.
