CUSHING, Mell H. (Dubuque, IA, May 29, 1860-- ). Proprietor of the North Star Livery Stable and a dealer in undertaking goods. Cushing, the son of James CUSHING began his business life in his father's vinegar business. This developed into James Cushing & Son. The business lasted two years before Mell Cushing decided to enter the dairy business.

The dairy business lasted for one year. Mell Cushing moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and began his own vinegar works, but due to ill health returned in two years to Dubuque. In December, 1886, he opened his livery business. In 1893 he also opened an undertaking establishment.
