PROGRESSIVE DINING. In 1987 progressive dining was offered through a cooperative effort of the Redstone-Stout House management, the RYAN HOUSE, and the DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Soup was offered at the Stout House. Salad and a entree was presented at the Ryan House, and dessert was served at the Ham House.

Beginning in May with only large groups and bus tours, the schedule evolved to include breakfasts and lunches, dinner early enough for guests to attend a show at the GRAND THEATRE, and accommodation of several groups in an evening. Guests used their own transportation or attending with a tour. Tour guides rode with the guests explaining Dubuque history en route to the next course.

By mid-November, homes were incorporating decorations with such options as carolers, Christmas shopping at CABLE CAR SQUARE, and scenes from "A Christmas Carol performed at the Grand. Homes included the HAM HOUSE, STOUT HOUSE, Redstone, and Ryan House. Together with the Truss and Buttress Society's Victorian Christmas, visitors would be able to see eight local mansions.
