KOLCK, Richard. (Diilmen, Province of Westphalis, Apr. 26, 1849--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 21, 1937). After attending the public and high schools of Dulmen, Westphalia, Kolck spent two and a half years as the bookkeeper for a local concern and then emigrated to America.

He came to Dubuque in 1870 and became a salesman for the firm of Glover & Sinnock, later H. B. GLOVER COMPANY. Several years later, he opened his own notions business at the corner of Seventh and Main STREETS. His business prospered and he moved to 776 Main street until 1892, adding also the wholesale department. In March, 1897, he moved the business 779-783 Iowa street.

Kolck was a director of the CITIZENS' STATE BANK (THE), DUBUQUE CASKET COMPANY and was a director and one of the owners of the Dubuque Sharpshooters' Park.
